My art
in the last few years has turned from abstract drawings to
a more graphic presentation of folk art like and sculptural
images on paper. Recent publications have
given these types of images the label of "faux folk" or "nouveau
naive" when referring to
artists who are trained or schooled but have chosen this art
type to communicate. I
migrated to these images because of what I perceived in traditional
folk art to be honest
artist expressions, a direct creative impulse and vivid, lively
stories or images. The
figures and drawn images I create fit into my own personal
history or folk art collecting,
my artist father who made and painted many, many images and
my own formal art
education of design and drawing. |
