- Rep. Tom Udall D-NM currently is serving in his third term in Congress representing New Mexico’s Third Congressional District.
- Udall’s priorities include securing a first-rate education system for all students; improving access to health care, including providing real prescription drug coverage for Medicare beneficiaries; reforming our campaign finance laws and elections; protecting our natural resources; guaranteeing veterans are honored; protecting the constitution and civil liberties; and ensuring small businesses have the tools to create more well-paying jobs.
- After his swearing in to Congress on Jan. 3, 1999, Udall gained seats on the House Committees of Resources, Small Business, and Veterans Affairs. Despite his three-term status, Udall was named Ranking Member of the Small Business Subcommittee on Workforce, Empowerment, and Government Programs.
- He also serves on the Resources Subcommittees on Energy & Mineral Resources, Forests & Forest Health, and National Parks, Recreation & Public Lands.
- Udall also serves on the Veterans Subcommittee on Oversight & Investigation.

- Prior to the start of the 108th Congress, Udall was appointed to serve on the powerful Democratic Steering & Policy Committee, on which he works directly with the leadership to help direct the legislative agenda for the minority party in the House of Representatives.
- Udall also is the Co-Vice Chair of the House Native American Caucus; a member of the Bipartisan Rural Caucus, the Democratic Education Task Force, and the Congressional Law Enforcement Caucus, among others.

- From 1991 to 1999, Udall served as New Mexico's Attorney General.
- Udall comes from a family distinguished for its devotion to public service. His family pioneered the southwest in the 1800's. His roots in New Mexico run deep, with his grandmother having been born in what is now Luna, New Mexico in 1893. His father, Stewart Udall, was elected four times to Congress before being appointed Secretary of the Interior by Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. His uncle Morris ("Mo") Udall not only served in Congress for 30 years but also was a major presidential contender in 1976.

- An undergraduate degree from Prescott College in 1970. In 1975, he graduated from Cambridge University in England with a Bachelor of Law degree. That fall, he enrolled in the University of New Mexico Law School and graduated with a Juris Doctor in 1977.
