Exhibit report

Open Monday - Friday, 11:00 AM - 13:00 PM & 18:00 PM - 20 PM. Saturday 10:00 AM-2:00 PM, Sundays November 13 & 27,10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Opening reception: 11/6/06 100 Aprox. 100 people.

Visitors:

  • Public schools:

1116 students and their teachers attended the exhibit.
In 7 instances, the teachers visited the site prior to the visit for preparation-time.

The visits were staged following two distinctive parts:
1) Freedom of movement in the exhibit space.
2) Regrouping and supervised tour to build on the student' immediate observation and provide follow-up comment on specific works.

Depending on the grade-level of of the students, some hand - on experiments were carried to help a better understanding of the iconography. Only two classes expressed some level of indifference. But for most, they manifested pointed interest ( astonishment, question, attentive observation of the artworks - much circling around Termes' sphere!...)

A school scheduled its visit during the school's open-door day so that the students could come with their parents.

Some of the students favorite: Constant, Jenner, Field, Casselman, Kalandari, Rousseau Friedmann, Colonna.Banchoff did not draw as much interest. The younger ones were captivated by the work of Wright.

  • Adults:

250 people approximately (not including the opening reception attendance)

Clearly, visitors were very interested, spending substantial amount of time in front of each work,
evaluating carefully each statement from display to display.

Many expressed their surprise and appreciation by asking question, often relative to the field of mathematic. A majority of guests were of scientific background. Few plastics artists came but 24 designers spent a lot of time in front of works of Colonna, Ripps, Hart and Constant.

The absence of more readily available documentation, maybe a catalogue or invitation card was missed, and the gallery regular opening schedule could have been extended to accommodate additional public viewing.

The exhibit was very often described "as original", "atypical". Thessalonique City Hall expressed the wish to present it again next October - as is - or with new works.

ARPAM website address was passed around.

The exhibit could have benefited from additional resource such as:
- Computer equipment to visit the artists' site or to look for specific relevant information.
- Small equipment for hand-on demonstration,
- Conference or workshops on the topic. Gilbert Béranger Thessalonique 1/12/06
